Skin peels

There is huge hype about skin peels at the moment and rightly so.
I have been a fan of them for years and try to do one on a regular basis.

So what do they actually do?

There are different types of peels with different ingredients. The idea behind them is they exfoliate, feed and stimulate the skin.

Most peels will contain a form of AHA’s (such as glycolic or lactic acid) or BHA’s such as salicylic acid.
Others may contain retinol, vitamin C, peptides or a mixture of a few. The list goes on and on.

This is why a consultation is vital and also to consider the persons skin type and concerns.
There is also the depth to consider:
Superficial, medium or deep.

The first two are the safest and can be performed by trained beauty therapists, giving amazing results.

Leave the serious deep peels for the Doctors!

I like peels because they dissolve the debris on the skin and actively clean pores. You can use them to combat many skin issues such as acne, congestion, dryness, pigmentation, ageing and much more. They are also a wonderful pick me up- ideal for an instant glow before a special occasion. You all know I am a big fan of microdermabrasion but research has shown if done incorrectly, mini micro tears of the skin may occur. This can’t happen with peels.
Some things to consider:
On the rare occasion reactions can occur and I have witnessed this first hand. They are never serious and may cause redness and sensitivity for a few days. As they name suggests you may also get peeling!

this is a little dramatic. a superficial peel wont cause this much peeling

Some peels may require you to use products for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment to prep your skin. If this is the case, listen to your therapist. It’s not a sales gimmick to get you to buy products, but a way to get your skin used to active, working ingredients and helps limit the risk of small reactions. It also ensures your skin is ready to absorb the products and for the peel to work its magic and penetrate the stratum corneum which is the top layer of the skin.

With age our skin does not shed dead skin as quickly as it used to. It’s time to give it a helping hand and peels do just that.

I am delighted to let you know I will be offering peels with a great product range in the next few weeks! Bear with me while I get things organised but it won’t be too long. Seriously excited and if you have any questions drop me a message and I can answer any questions you may have.
